Chapter no. 3 The blue Mountains

Just outside Sydney are the Blue Mountains defiantly something I didn’t wanna miss while I was in Sydney.

The first time I went over there was on a Sunday with some friends. It was a good day to go since the weather was nice and the train only cost $2,50 on Sundays :) We took the train to Katoomba and from there we walked to the 3 sisters where we did a little hike to a waterfall.

The second time I went I went with other friends but this time we did a little road trip to the Jenolan caves. The oldest discovered caves in the world that you can actually vist as a tourist. Sounds impressive but that is exactly what they are :)

Chapter No. 2 Sydney

After seeing way to many movies and series and getting to less sleep I was finally there! I got picked up by my host dad from the airport and he brought me to my new home where I met my host mom and the girls for the first time.

When I was over my jet leg and it was time to meet up for the first time with strangers from Facebook and explore the city. In the beginning it was a bit weird meeting up with strangers and other Au pairs that I only met on Facebook, but by now it is totally normal for me!

The next 3 months I have bin babysitting, surfing and exploring Sydney. The time went by really fast, so by the time it was X-mas it was time go for a little holiday.

Chapter No. 1 The beginning

After years of hard working and studying was it finally there, graduation! Even though I was not there to pick up my degree since I was working and traveling in Germany I still did it! And now it was time to focus on my next chapter in life, backpacking down under!

Everybody knows that traveling for a year would cost a lot of money at least that is what everybody around me told me. Also needed I $5000 on my bank account when I would arrive in Australia on a working holiday visa. So I worked and saved a lot for the past 2 years and started looking for a host family in Australia where I could work as a live in nanny and earn some extra money. In September did I finally found a family. Mom, dad and two lovely little girls (9 months and 4 years) living in Sydney. So I applied for my work and holiday visa and booked a single flight to Sydney that would leave the same week.

Time to say goodbye to my friends and family back in The Netherlands and time to pack my bag. From experience I knew I had to pack less then I think I needed, but I failed again. When I went to the US for a year as a exchange student I ended up with coming back home with 16 pairs of shoes! Now I ended up packing 6 pairs of shoes but by the time it is now I am backpacking around with 9 pairs of shoes! But I guess I have good packing skills since I never send stuff back home and I never pay more than one check-in luggage that can only be around 21kg.

Before you know it the big day is there. In the morning it was time to wave goodbye to my sister on Schiphol airport who was flying back to Kenia. Later that evening my parents and I saw the 2nd airport for that day. But this time Frankfurt international airport to wave goodbye to me. A last hug, kiss and wave and let the movie marathon begin! Australia here I come! :)
